Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing – Gym Based Exercise (Part-Time or Full Time) is aimed at those who want to start their career in the fitness industry and by doing so, their first steps after gaining their qualification will be getting acquainted with the gym floor and helping new members become familiar with all the exercise equipment.
The newly qualified gym instructors would also design and set new gym programmes for clients as well as making sure that gym goers are safe using the gym machines at all times.
The Gym Instructor Course is definitely a first stepping stone and most newly qualified students go on to further development and study further to become personal trainers.

Format:
You can choose to study either part-time or full-time. Here’s an overview of these two formats:
Part-time Weekend: £647.00
Four weeks of home study, followed by two days of course attendance and one day of assessment. You can also choose to spread your home study for a longer period of time.
Part-time Weekday: £647.00
This involves a minimum of four weeks of home study followed by two days required attendance during the week and one day of practical assessment.
Full-time: £779.00
This is a total of eight days of study (Monday to Friday schedule, with study hours from 9am to 4:30pm).

This course is made of six units:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Principles of Exercise and Health
- Maintaining Health, Safety and Welfare in Fitness Environments
- Programming Safe and Effective Exercises
- Instructing Safe and Effective Exercises
- Supporting Your Client to Adhere to Exercise
Assesment:
While studying gym instructor courses with Discovery Learning, you will have full access to our online interactive study platform that includes video tutorials, images, manuals, mock exam questions as well as other learning tools to aid you. You will also benefit from our Student Support team who are here to help via phone, email or Skype.
Your assessment will be as follows:
- 1 x 60-minute multiple choice examination (Anatomy & Physiology)
- 1 x 60-minute multiple choice examination (Principles of Exercise & Fitness)
- 1 x continuous practical assessment
- 1 x practical exam
- 4 x worksheets

Requirements
Because this qualification is aimed at those just starting out, previous fitness qualifications are not necessary, but we do require a good command of English (written and spoken), good communication skills and last but not least, determination.
Career path
Once you complete your gym instructor course, you will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing – Gym Based Exercises. It is a YMCA Awards qualification, accredited by Skills Active -recognised in all UK as well as internationally.
You will also be able to register with REPs at Level 2 and hence, gain 20 REPs points.
