We are looking for a proactive and passionate Support Worker to join our friendly and welcoming team in Aberystwyth on a permanent, full-time basis.
If you consider yourself to be reliable, enthusiastic and forward thinking we would like you to consider joining us as a Support Worker for people with a learning disability.
You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work we do alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a 'can-do' attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed.
You will receive bespoke training for this service, covering a number of specific skills. We aim to provide consistent, positive support to any individual and a patient and resilient approach will go a long way! This role has a unique set of challenges.
We are currently supporting three fantastic individuals with a learning disability in our Aberystwyth service - one lady and two gentlemen. All three like to keep busy by attending day centres, swimming, going out for the day, enjoying walks in the picturesque local parks, dancing, pottery and a whole lot more! When at home, they like to be involved in the upkeep of their house as well as household chores, such as cooking, cleaning and washing. To become a Support Worker for Mencap you need to be able to meet the needs of those that we support as well as be flexible and resourceful in order to keep up with them!

Please note, a full and valid UK driving licence is essential for this role so that you can meet the requirements of the people we support and the position as a whole.
Previous experience within the learning disability field is not necessary, but it would be an advantage to have some experience within the Health and Social Care sector.
Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. You will need to be able to work flexibly across a range of different shift patterns, including various day shifts, evenings, weekends as well as sleep-in shifts. We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota will be prepared well in advance - Got a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you meet it. Please note, payment for our sleep-ins is competitive and compliant with National Living Wage requirements.
Our award winning Learning and Development department deliver a superb Induction programme to all new staff. Enhanced DBS is required for each successful candidate, which is paid for by Mencap.
