Specialist Clinical Psychologist

To provide a high quality clinical psychology service to children, adolescents and families in a specified Child and Adolescent Mental Health [CAMH] team working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the department’s policies and procedures. This includes:

Psychological assessment and therapy

Advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non psychological colleagues and to other non professional carers.

Teaching principles of psychological theory and therapy to non psychologist colleagues in health and social care.

To provide teaching and supervision to other psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists, trainee and graduate Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology and Assistant Psychologists

To apply research skills to guide and develop evidence based clinical practice, and in service development, service evaluation and clinical audit, and undertaking clinically relevant research.

NOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB

A First Class Honours or Upper second Class degree in Psychology that provides eligibility for graduate basis for registration with British Psychological Society.

An accredited postgraduate Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology to meet the requirements for eligibility to register as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and as a member of the Health and Care Professions Council. Once registered as a member of the HCPC, the post holder should maintain registration. These qualifications confer an advanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of theoretical models and working practices.

Significant post qualification experience of working with children and young people with psychological problems and their families.

Training in and experience of, supervising doctoral Clinical Psychology trainees and trainee Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology.

Ongoing professional development activities as required to continue practising as a Clinical Psychologist, including clinical supervision and further specialist courses and training.
