The purpose of this position is to manage and increase the effectiveness of the Group Legal function and to provide, and to coordinate the provision of, legal advice across a spectrum of internal and client related matters in each of the jurisdictions in which operations are performed.Key Responsibilities:
+ Manage the Group Legal function across multiple locations
+ Boost the profile of the Legal function within the Group and ensure that it is properly embedded into all aspects of Group operations
+ Take responsibility for supervising the activities of the Legal team and ensure that all legal advice is of a consistent quality across the Group
+ Manage the engagement letter process with our clients, and the negotiation of other contracts with third parties, and ensure terms provide appropriate levels of protection.
+ Monitor legal and regulatory developments, coordinate Group Legal thinking and update Boards, senior management and other staff on any relevant changes (through written updates and training) and shape internal policies and procedures to respond to such changes
+ Formally review the Group precedent bank and update and expand this to cover key documents for the Group business
+ Coordinate the development and roll out of new legal products and solutions for Group clients
+ Work closely with the CRO and the COO to support risk and compliance and operational initiatives and ensure they are shaped and rolled out in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
+ Advise the Risk and Compliance Team in relation to the application of legal and regulatory obligations in each jurisdiction and provide additional assistance as required
+ Assume primary responsibility for the maintenance and development of the Group’s regulatory policies and procedures
+ Provide legal input into all aspects of the affairs of the Group in the UK, Jersey, Guernsey, Luxembourg, Sweden and the Netherlands
+ Act as a higher authority for the Administration and Accounting Teams on day-to-day problems of a legal nature in relation to all Group clients, ensuring that Group policy and professional guidelines are adhered to and that a professional quality service is provided to clients and outside contacts
+ Provide legal support on the more complex aspects of client affairs within the Group
+ Provide internal support in connection with Group legal matters including contracts, regulatory compliance, employment issues, Group financing, property issues, intellectual property issues and tax matters
+ Develop relationships with external law firms and liaise with such firms in connection with the provision of legal advice to the GroupSkills, knowledge, expertise:
+ The post holder will ideally be a person with at least 10 years’ practical legal experience and will hold a relevant professional qualification.
+ The candidate must have a strong legal background and have, or be willing to develop, sound technical knowledge of closed ended funds and the offshore markets. An ability to provide commercial, risk sensitive legal solutions is essential.
+ The candidate must be entrepreneurial and motivated and must be both capable of working alone and as part of a team.
+ Good interpersonal skills are required to develop close working relationships with colleagues, clients and business contacts across jurisdictions.
+ A willingness to travel regularly is important.
