About the Operations Performance Manager Role:

As our Operations Performance Manager, reporting directly into our Head of Operational Performance & Compliance, you’ll effectively implement performance management initiatives and successfully execute operational strategy during an exciting period of change within a new, evolving team structure. The business is currently in a two-year period of integration of its core businesses (Smiths News & Tuffnells) to support its strategic aim of being the UK’s leading provider of specialist distribution solutions in complex, and time-critical supply chains.

In this interesting and challenging role you will:

  • Understand the dynamics of processes, process performance and process improvement of Smiths News & Tuffnells
  • Be responsible for the operational KPI’s including analysis, reviewing and management of performance with the depots and senior team
  • Be the point of contact for all newspaper publishers, magazine distributers and their associated carriers
  • Enhance the efficiency of processes while improving the quality of products and services
  • Be accountable for all areas of operational performance and waste & inventory within the depots

This position is predominantly field based attending business locations, external meetings in the UK or working from head office in Swindon.

About You:

  • Operations performance management expertise and a structured approach to driving process performance and process improvement typically gained through 2 or more years’ experience in a 3PL/4PL environment
  • Demonstrable background of success within operations performance through a tenacious and effective approach to meeting and exceeding targets and delivering an outstanding client experience
  • Educated to at least A level standard (or equivalent)
  • Possesses strong analytical skills
  • Computer literate and comfortable in the use of technology and IT systems, including a high degree of knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience of working with and influencing internal and external senior business stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including:
    • The ability to engage and build rapport with stakeholders
    • Communicating information in a clear and commercial manner
    • Adapting style and content for different audiences
  • Demonstrating a confident, credible and accomplished presentation style
  • Excellent business acumen and strong commercial and financial awareness
  • Adaptable, positive and effective when working with ambiguity and changing commercial drivers
  • Passionate and driven by delivering for the customer with a background in delivery within a customer-focused business
  • Able to work at pace whilst maintaining an accurate, high quality output
  • Highly organised with a well-developed approach to prioritisation
  • Possesses a positive and collegiate attitude
  • Able to adapt swiftly with a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure stakeholder satisfaction

Desirable:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent
  • Previous experience within the Parcel or publishing marketplace
