Database Application Support Lead- Birmingham- up to £40k
We are currently recruiting for a Database Application Support Lead for a utilities business based in Birmingham. This is an opportunity where your responsibilities increase as the business continues its exponential growth. We want passionate, driven people who want to develop as the business scales up.
You will be responsible for, the overall technical support and operation, and their integration with existing and proposed systems architecture.
Lead the relationship with their technical system suppliers including suppliers, third party technical services providers and software suppliers.
Building and maintaining MS SQL application databases, ensuring systems are functional, performant and proactively maintained.
Building and leading the design architecture of our growing data warehouse, configuration of high availability database infrastructure within our datacentres and building maintenance and backup plans.
Ensuring our data is protected and readily available, while keeping it secure and compliant.
Essential Functional Skills/Experience
Extensive database and application support experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in Database Administration is essential
Able to demonstrate a strong technical understanding of IT architectures
A thorough knowledge of MS SQL server 2010 - 2012, clustering and architecture
Able to successfully manage and prioritise multiple tasks, whilst working to stringent deadlines.
Good stakeholder management skills.
Understanding of how applications use databases and how to architect / operate databases accordingly.
Understanding of middleware functionality
Knowledge of enterprise applications and web services
Understanding of database schemas.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable Functional Skills / Experience
Previous experience in a technical environment in the utilities industry is highly desirable.
Experience of the Smart Metering Implementation Programme is highly desirable.
Previous experience of working in international teams is highly desirable.
Understanding or experience of agile development is desirable.
Basic understanding of Oracle database architecture is desirable.
