Successful candidates will achieve an AIM Awards Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (QCF) 601/2106/3.

Choose this advanced course if you wish to become a professional counsellor/psychotherapist and wish to gain, through qualification, a route onto an Accredited Register approved by the Professional Standards Authority. Since its launch in 2012, the Accredited Register programme is the benchmark for counsellors and therapists and can provide public confidence in your services.

Syllabus

Applicants with Level 3 Counselling Skills or similar can complete this course in 2 years by starting at year 2.

Years One & Two: Previous Modules as per Chrysalis Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Skills & Theory.

Year Three: Over 10 weekends, you'll study the following six units:

  1. The Humanistic Approach to Counselling (Includes; Contracting with Clients)
  2. The Psychodynamic Approach to Counselling. (Includes; Legal Issues)
  3. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Integration. (Includes; Difference & Diversity)
  4. Understanding Depressions; Human Relationships. (Includes; Ethical Issues)
  5. Abuse and Addiction. (Includes; Use of Supervision)
  6. Personal and Professional Aspects of Counselling. (Includes; CPD)

Study Methods: Practical classroom work; Practice Groups; Homework assignments; Reflective Journal; Formally Supervised Placement Arrangement; Focus on practical work with no final exam.

Supervision/Placement: This course requires 100 hours of practise in a formally supervised placement arrangement. There will be small additional supervision charges applicable in year 3 of this course.

Career path

On completion of the course you will be a fully qualified Registered Counsellor and earn an Advanced Diploma (Ad.Dip Psy C.) You will be able to practice professionally and will have a clear and rapid upgrade route to Level 5 & 6 (Higher Education) qualifications.
