Description

Our SIA Close Protection course is designed to fully prepare you to understand and meet the expectations of prospective clients and meet the standards set out by the private security industry.

The Close Protection course is designed for individuals wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a Close Protection Operative. Due to licence integration, upon completion, learners can also apply for a licence to become a door supervisor.

What Does the Course Include?

  • Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (3-days).

All delegates must complete and pass all first-aid training before starting the close protection training.

  • Level 3 Certificate for Workings as Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry (18 days).

The Close Protection course covers a wide range of skills, through a combination of theory-based classes, practical exercises, and scenarios based on the common duties of a modern-day Close Protection Operative (CPO). There will be an intensive final exercise that combines all the skills and knowledge obtained throughout the course.

First Aid at Work Course Contents

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident, and recognise signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. Topics include:

  • the roles and responsibilities of a first-aider
  • assessing an emergency situation safely
  • CPR and AED
  • administering first aid to a choking casualty
  • dealing with shock, burns, scalds, bleeds and minor injuries
  • dealing with casualties with fractures, and spinal, head or chest injuries
  • dealing with heart attacks, strokes and other major illnesses

First Aid at Work Course Assessment Method

This qualification is assessed through the assessment paperwork for each component, each graded pass/fail:

  • Practical Assessment – The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. Learners must demonstrate practical first aid skills.
  • Multiple-choice theory assessment – For a multiple-choice theory assessment, all candidates are required to answer a series of multiple-choice questions. You must achieve a pass on each element.

This course is held over the first 3 days (6 hours each day, excluding breaks).

Close Protection Course Assessment Method

To complete the Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry, delegates must complete 7 modules.

This qualification is graded as pass/fail. To pass the Close Protection Operative course you will have to pass multiple-choice examinations and practical assessments as follows:

  • Module 1 – Principles of Working as a Close Protection Operative in the Private Security Industry

Knowledge assessment: Multiple-choice question examination made up of 52 questions (80 min.). Pass mark = 70%

Practical assessment: Workbook. Pass mark = 100%

  • Module 2 – Working as a close protection operative in the private security industry

Knowledge assessment: Externally set Workbook

Practical assessment: Workbook Portfolio of evidence. Pass mark = 100%

  • Module 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry

Knowledge assessment: Multiple-choice question examination made up of 20 questions (30 min.). Pass mark = 70%

Practical assessment: One practical scenario. Pass mark = 100%

  • Module 4 – Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry

Knowledge assessment: Externally set and marked multiple-choice question examination made up of 10 questions (20 min.). Pass mark = 70%

  • Module 5 – Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

Knowledge assessment: Multiple-choice question examination made up of 29 questions (45 min.). Pass mark = 72%

  • Module 6 – Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

Knowledge assessment: Multiple-choice question examination made up of 30 questions (45 min.). Pass mark = 80%

Practical assessment: Demonstration of every technique and question and answer session to cover critical areas of PI knowledge. Pass mark = 100%

  • Module 7 – Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry

Knowledge assessment: Multiple-choice question examination made up of 30 questions (45 min.). Pass mark = 80%
