RMAN

It stands for Recovery Manager which was introduced in Oracle 8. It is an oracle utility which is meant to back up, restore and recover database files. This is a feature of the Oracle and does not need any separate installation or set up. It uses the database server sessions to carry out backup and recovery. RMAN saves metadata about its operations in the control file of the target database and in an recovery catalog schema.
