Overview

There is a huge growth in open water swimming and lifeguards are required notably at swimmer events. The Open Water Lifeguard Qualification is designed to provide candidates with the skills to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk-assessed activities in open water (still, non-tidal).

Description

The course is open to current pool lifeguards who wish to add on Open Water Lifeguard it will be a mix of classroom work and open water work covering:

Section 1 – Open water hazard.

Section 2 – Lifeguarding an open water site.

Section 3 – Practical in-water training.

It is quite an intense course but you will be fully supported.

Assessment will be on-going during the course, there are no formal exam papers.

Aquatic PPE: A Steamer wetsuit and footware will be important on this course.

Current pool lifeguards who are aspirant open water lifeguards seeking work in the leisure industry.

Candidate requirements

To enter onto a course and have the best opportunity to succeed you should be:

• A current pool lifeguard with certificate and confident in open water.

• Able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/open water using a continuous front stroke.

• Able to dive to a depth of two metres.
