The aim of this course is to build on your existing presentation skills by using a set of skills, tools and techniques to prepare, structure and deliver brilliant presentations to get your message across. It will include working with PowerPoint presentations and/or other visuals. Laptops will be provided, but please note that we do not focus on the IT skills of creating a PowerPoint presentation – it is assumed that the participant is competent at this.

Learning outcomes include obtaining a greater understanding of:

  • What is means to truly engage
  • The qualities of the effective presenter and presentation
  • Bringing refinement, focus and power to your message
  • Using PowerPoint to strengthen your presentation
  • Essential techniques in voice, breathing and posture

You will give a prepared presentation (either the first five-ten minutes, or a complete five-ten minute presentation) several times throughout the day.


Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:

  • A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
  • B - Technical legal practice
  • C - Working with other people
  • D - Managing themselves and their own work

Who is this course for?

This course is designed to take the experienced presenter on to more advanced skills. We recommend that delegates have attended Presentation Skills – An Introduction and/or have some experience of giving presentations. This course will benefit lawyers and non-law professionals alike.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
