Overview

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a method of psychotherapy treatment that is focused on counteracting errors in thinking and making sense of emotional disturbance using the talking therapy approach. Through this method, problems are defined more accurately and are then broken into manageable parts, so they can be properly addressed.

CBT was originally designed to overcome anxiety and depression. However, with its efficiency in initiating positive change in the way people think and behave, it is now being used as a mode of treatment for a number of psychological problems. This approach is also used to help people cope up with a host of emotional issues including stress, trauma and grief.

As CBT gives emphasis on the behaviour and emotional wellbeing of a person, cognitive behavioural therapists must know how to identify the root cause of the issue and identify the most suitable approach to overcome it. Such capabilities can only be developed and honed through understanding the core principles and techniques of CBT. This course provides you the opportunity to know CBT in-depth and get the training you need to start a practice.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
