Overview

This quali?cation develops the knowledge and skills needed when working with adults in health and social care environments. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures.

It has three pathways:

Generic Health and Social Care
Dementia
Learning Disability

It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship.

Description

This qualification will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills required when working with adults in health and social care environments in a supervised role. You will need to complete a combination of core mandatory units, pathway specific units and optional units to achieve this qualification. Mandatory units include:

 Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

 Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s

 Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s

 Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

 The role of the health and social care worker

 Implement person-centred approaches in health and social care

 Contribute to health and safety in health and social care  Handle information in health and social care settings.

The optional units you can choose from include:

 The purpose and principles of independent advocacy

 Dementia awareness

 Well-being and mental health promotion

 The administration of medicine  Infection prevention and control

 Awareness of sensory loss

 Support for therapy sessions

 Support for mobility

 Supporting care plan activities

 Self-directed support.

This qualification allows you to choose one of three pathways:

 Generic Health and Social Care

 Dementia

 Learning Disability.

The optional units and the pathways allow you to focus on specific areas of health and social care, with a view to progressing to further learning or employment at a higher level e.g. a level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, in a specialised area e.g. mental health or as a more senior care worker in a range of health and social care settings.

It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

All those who wish to work or who are working in a supervised role with adults in health and social care.

Requirements

You should be at least 16 years old.

This qualification provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work under supervision in a wide variety of Level 2 Health and Social Care job roles:

 Care Assistant in Residential Settings or Supported Living

 Healthcare Support Worker in Community and Primary Care Environments

 Healthcare Assistant in Acute Health Environments

 Care Support Worker in Domiciliary Services.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
