This programme alone will not allow you to practice as a psychologist in the United Kingdom. However, for individuals who want to pursue a career in psychology, it will provide you with the core foundational knowledge into the discipline and it’s the first step towards a career in the field. The experience and skills you gain will also be appreciated by employers in a wide range of professions outside of the field of psychology.

The Psychology MSc consists of the following taught modules* and a final dissertation project.

There is a brief break scheduled between modules to allow students to refresh themselves and reflect on what they have learned.

*Please note, these modules are not finalised and may be subject to change.

To achieve a full master’s degree, you will be required to complete 180 credits. This programme is also available as a postgraduate certificate (PG Cert) which amounts to 60 credits and a postgraduate diploma (PG Dip) which amounts to 120 credits. Students who complete the PG Cert and PG Dip will have the opportunity to progress to the full master’s degree.

Who is this course for?

The Psychology MSc has been designed to provide students without an undergraduate psychology degree with the necessary skills and understanding to take up rewarding careers in the field, by providing a comprehensive understanding of biological, developmental, cognitive and social psychology.

Requirements

Applicants should possess either: 

  • A minimum of a 2:1 class degree in any subject including psychology equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree; or 
  • A minimum of a 2:2 class degree in any subject including psychology equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree AND have gained at least two years of relevant professional experience.

All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 (overall) and 7.0 (reading and writing).
