Description

Modern forms of slavery can include debt bondage, where a person is forced to work for free to pay off a debt, child slavery, forced marriage, domestic servitude and forced labour, where victims are made to work through violence and intimidation.

The 2016 Global Slavery Index, from the Walk Free Foundation in Australia, defines slavery as “situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, abuse of power or deception”.

The Modern Day Slavery Course, defines Modern Day Slavery and using everyday scenarios, provides examples of Modern Slavery. Users will understand the characteristics and conditions slavery can take and will be able to identify potential cases of exploitation in both their social and work environment.

A detailed section of this course explains current UK legislation, where to go for advice and how to report any concerns. Additionally, the Modern Day Slavery Course, effectively explains how in some organisations, supply chains, can conceal illegal exploitation. Delegates completing this course will understand the importance of supply chain transparency, the required annual slavery report and human trafficking statements long with good business practice.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
