The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Training is designed to address the shortage of experienced MLA within the histopathology department nationwide..
This course will equip you with the skills and techniques required to work efficiently as MLA within the histopathology laboratory without further training. You will gain experience of working both independently and as part of a team during your training.

The theory and practical modules that will be covered in this training includes:
- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Specimen reception
- Tissue Processing
- Operation and Maintenance of ASP Tissue Processor
- Operation and Maintenance of H&E autostainer
- Embedding of Tissues
- Block filing
- Slide Filing
Our staff are highly trained and will support you in developing the skills and competences required to work as MLA in any histopathology laboratory.

The course is specifically designed for those without science degree or school leaver who wishes to pursue a career in the health sector.
This course will equip you with a transferable skills and wide range of knowledge to function effectively as MLA. It is a sensible choice if your interest is in Biomedical Science or you want to work for the NHS to help people. This MLA training will give you the work experience that is required by laboratory managers.
This accredited training will offer you the opportunity to apply for job in the NHS or private laboratories in the UK or abroad. The intensive practical will broaden your experience and increase your chances of securing a job. The skills attained will not only be useful in laboratory-based biosciences, but also help you to develop general professional skills.

What days of the week is the training being done? What would be the start and finish time, please?
Answer:Dear Judith, Thank you for your enquiry and apologies for late response. This was due to the lockdown, but we are back into training. Our Medical Laboratory Assistant Training is 90% online course with one day practical training, which will be on Mondays 9.00AM - 12.00PM. This is a new changes into the course. Thanks. Answer:Hi Kieran, Our MLA courses are offered every 2 months, while the intensive histology or intensive microbiology courses are monthly throughout the year. Please note that the Intensive histology and Intensive Microbiology courses are for science graduates, while the MLA Training is for individuals with minimum of GCSE certificate or non-science degree holder.
