By the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Identify the steps needed for care proceedings and emergencies
    • Explain the law and practice on contact, as well as duties and regulations
    • Explain the law and practice on secure accommodation, and in particular the statutory regulations and reviews
    • Understand child protection conferences, what occurs and steps thereafter.
    • Describe different type of assessments, and in particular, the single assessment and other expert assessments
    • Understand ‘Working Together,’ Care Planning Regulations and Reviews
    • Work effectively under the Public Law Outline
    • Understand Adoption and Permanency Panels
    • Explain the Adoption Agencies Regulations and ‘Parallel Planning’

Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:

  • A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
  • B - Technical legal practice
  • C - Working with other people
  • D - Managing themselves and their own work
