The Level 3 Award in English for Literacy and Language Teaching is appropriate for any of these, the Award in English for Literacy and Language teaching course covers reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as analysing the English language.

At MKLC we have designed the course content to be relevant and flexible to differing abilities and needs. The Award in English for Literacy and Language teaching lessons are self paced, so if you feel confident in certain areas you progress quickly through these to the areas you need to focus more on. You can also complete the assignments in the order you prefer. You will receive feedback from your tutor within 48 hours of submission.

Description

The Award in English for Literacy and Language teaching course is level 3 accredited by TQUK, an Ofqual accredited Awarding Body, ensuring the course meets a standard of quality. You will be assigned a tutor to guide and support you through the course.

  • Course Content

There are four units, each unit is worth 3 credits and all 4 units must completed to achieve the qualification.

The units are:

Analysing English language for literacy and language teaching

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the relationship between forms of language and meaning
  • Understand structural features of language

Reading skills for literacy and language teaching

Learning outcomes:

  • Be able to read written texts (for specific purposes)
  • Be able to respond to written texts

Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching

Learning outcomes:

  • Be able to present information
  • Be able to listen and respond to non verbal and verbal information

Writing skills for literacy and language teaching

Learning outcomes:

  • Be able to prepare written texts
  • Be able to produce written texts

Under each unit, you will need to complete the tasks and assignments to achieve the criteria.

  • Course Structure:

The Award in English for Literacy and Language teaching course contains lessons to complete at your own pace, before moving onto the assignments. The majority of the Award in English for Literacy and Language teaching course assignments are completed as a word documents, there are reasonable adjustments available for those who need them. For the Speaking and Listening unit one of the assignments is assessed through a live video assessment with your tutor. This can be completed through a number of available platforms including Zoom, Teams and Skype and we can also help set these up if needed.

Who is this course for?

The Award in English for Literacy and Language Teaching is a level 3 qualification, which aims to develop learners' understanding of the English language and develop their skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing English which can then be applied in the teaching of literacy and language.

The course cab be used as evidence for QTLS or for entry towards specialist teaching qualifications.

Requirements

Learners need to be at least 16 years of age.c

Working at Level 2 or above in functional skills (English, mathematics and ICT).
