Description

What is IOSH Managing Safely?

An IOSH Managing Safely training course gives people in positions of responsibility an overview of how to identify, evaluate and control workplace risks.

It is aimed at anyone with responsibility for other employees, including team leaders, supervisors and managers.

The IOSH Managing Safely course was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This is a global chartered body that creates training courses to promote high standards of health and safety in the workplace.

IOSH Managing Safely qualifications are an excellent precursor to further professional development, including the IOSH Leading Safely course or NEBOSH accreditation. And best of all, they can be completed online.

An IOSH Managing Safely certificate is a sought-after accreditation and supports continued professional development.

There are no entry requirements to book this course and you do not need to register for IOSH membership.

Moving on from an IOSH Managing Safely qualification, participants will be well-positioned to study for a career in health and safety. It’s particularly useful for workers seeking further accreditation from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH).

Course programme and duration

The IOSH Managing Safely online course comprises 24 hours of tuition, which the participant can complete at their own pace.

There is no obligation to complete the course in a single sitting or within a few days. Participants have six months from enrolment to finish the training, and there are regular reminders to tell you how much time is left.

Once you register and pay for the course, you get a secure login for your learning account. This is compatible with computers, tablets and smartphones.

The IOSH Managing Safely online learning programme includes interactive exercises, revision tasks, informative video clips and additional reference materials surrounding the key issues.

The IOSH Managing Safely e-learning course is comprised of seven modules:

  • Module 1: Introducing managing safely
  • Module 2: Assessing risks
  • Module 3: Controlling risks
  • Module 4: Understanding responsibilities
  • Module 5: Understanding hazards
  • Module 6: Investigating incidents
  • Module 7: Measuring Performance

Modules can be accessed at any time and from any location with a suitable internet connection. This allows participants to progress with the e-learning course outside of normal working hours.

Assessment and certification

To ensure candidates progress at a sensible pace, the final assessment must be completed within six months of enrolment.

At the end of the course, candidates take a multiple-choice test to verify the knowledge and skills they have gained.

Once you’ve passed the multiple-choice test, you have two weeks to complete the practical assessment, which is also taken online. There is no need to attend our premises in person.

You will be notified of your results by email once your test is marked, which typically takes 2-3 weeks.

Successful candidates will thereafter receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate by post.

What is Included?

This includes access to online training materials and a maximum of six months to complete the required assessment.

We include up to six months of mentorship and admin support per participant to help ensure you get the best from your IOSH online training.

If you are unsuccessful at the first attempt, we include one resit of the final assessment at no additional cost.

Please note that completing this course does not give you membership of IOSH, although this is something you might want to consider separately.

If you would prefer to attend one of our classroom courses or arrange on-site training in your workplace, please get in touch and we will be happy to talk you through the options.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
