Description

Loss and grief are inevitable yet still immensely challenging aspects of life. When a bereavement happens, no matter whether it was predicted or unexpected, it can be incredibly difficult to process. The Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma Course acquaints you with the grieving process and explains how to support someone going through it, exploring the various types of bereavement and advising the specifics of how to help in each situation.

The course opens by discussing the concepts of grief and bereavement, providing a basic overview of how an individual might experience them.

You’ll explore and identify specific counselling skills used with individuals coping with grief and bereavement. You’ll learn the skills needed to help babies, toddlers, children, adolescents and adults through bereavement, along with how to help someone with diagnosed mental health difficulties to work through bereavement.

The Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma Course delves into counselling for sudden bereavement, including loss through suicide. You’ll gain an overview of how an individual may respond and techniques that can help someone through sudden bereavement and violent bereavement. You will also learn ways to counsel an individual through terminal illness bereavement, including, but not limited to, cancer and dementia, and you will look at end of life care and how to prepare an individual for this.

Children cope with death in different ways depending on their age. You’ll explore how children of various age groups may respond to a death, how to help them through bereavement and the common symptoms/behaviours that may be apparent. You’ll also learn how to help parents who have lost a child, including loss through miscarriage and stillbirth.

The Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma Course details other specific forms of bereavement. You’ll explore techniques to help an individual who is going through pet bereavement and how an individual may be impacted, how someone may be impacted by a sibling bereavement, how an individual may react after a partner/spouse has died, and how a counsellor can help themselves through vicarious bereavement and why they should practice self-care.

The course concludes by discussing alternative treatments that may be beneficial to help someone through a bereavement.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
