About AQA and GCSE Foundation Tier

A General Certificate of Secondary Education, or GCSE, is an academic credential at the secondary level that is highly regarded by colleges, employers, and educational institutions around the world. The qualification largely entails studying a subject's theory while also requiring some research and, in certain cases, practical work. The GCSE foundation tier is ideal for students who find the higher tier challenging and are aiming for grades 1-5 in their GCSE.

The goal of the awarding authority known as AQA, an academic and general qualification, is to improve students' knowledge and skills. It establishes standards, conducts exams at the GCSE, AS, and A Level in a range of subjects, and awards credentials for employment. These certifications are highly valued by employers and colleges around the world.

About Official Exam, Assessment & Certification

In order to assess the knowledge and skills that students are learning, this GCSE Chemistry Course tests students through multiple online examinations in between lectures. After successfully completing each module, students participate in an interactive assessment process that gauges their understanding of each topic and their ability to put their newfound knowledge and credentials to use in real-world situations. When applying the underlying knowledge to get ready for tests, you may also review your progress at the conclusion of the session and continue to practise whenever you choose.

When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £345 (Exd. VAT) to book the official exam.

Assessment Structure

The AQA GCSE Chemistry Foundation Tier consists of two paper-based and practical assessments.

  • Exam duration: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Marks: 100
  • Weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question type: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Paper 2

  • Topic: The rate and extent of chemical change, organic chemistry; chemical analysis, the chemistry of the atmosphere; and using resources
  • Exam duration: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Marks: 100
  • Weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question type: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Practical Assessment

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
