Description

Learning Objectives and Outcomes of This Course

Towards the end of this Functional Skills Entry Level 1 Maths Course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a thorough comprehension of the basic mathematical concepts
  • Learn about mathematical techniques for solving problems
  • Apply mathematical reasoning to solve problems in known situations
  • Gain self-assurance in your ability to apply basic mathematical principles
  • Utilise your expertise and skills to solve simple issues or mathematical equations

Official Exam/Assessment:

You will be assessed via paper based exam that you can take at our exam centre. When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £150 (Excl. VAT) for Pearson Edexcel awarding body to book the official exam.

Compatible Assessment Process

To gauge your comprehension of maths skills, this Functional Skills Entry Level 1 Maths Course will evaluate you via single assessments, which are internally reviewed by the assessor and monitored and marked by the exam board. Once you complete the test, your results will be sent to Pearson Edexcel's internal verifier. If you successfully complete all three components, the awarding body will provide you with the qualification certificate.

The exam must be taken in our authorised office in London or Swindon on the scheduled day.

However, you must register for the exam at least three weeks before the exam date.

Exam Format

Students must pass two sections to receive the Pearson Edexcel and NCFE Functional Skills Qualification in Maths at Entry Level 1 certificate. The exam format is provided below:

Section A

  • Duration: 20 minutes
  • Marks awarded: 5
  • Qualification percentage: 25%
  • The use of a calculator is not allowed

Section B

  • Duration: 60 minutes.
  • Marks awarded:15 marks
  • Qualification percentage: 75%
  • The use of a calculator is allowed

Course Curriculum

  • Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 20
  • Use whole numbers to count up to 20 items, including zero
  • Add numbers which total up to 20, and subtract numbers from numbers up to 20
  • Recognise and interpret the symbols +, – and = appropriately
  • Recognise coins and notes and write them in numbers with the correct symbols (£ & p), where these involve numbers up to 20
  • Read 12-hour digital and analogue clocks in hours
  • Know the number of days in a week, months and seasons in a year; be able to name and sequence
  • Describe and make comparisons in words between measures of items including size, length, width, height, weight and capacity
  • Identify and recognise common 2-D and 3-D shapes, including circle, cube, rectangle (including square) and triangle
  • Use everyday positional vocabulary to describe position and direction, including left, right, in front, behind, under and above
  • Read numerical information from lists
  • Sort and classify objects using a single criterion
  • Read and draw simple charts and diagrams, including a tally chart, block diagram/graph
