The course gives a full overview of the law and procedure relating to claims for financial relief on and after divorce. You will find at the end of the course that you will have increased confidence about how to apply for financial relief and, to prepare for and present hearings. It covers all aspects of a case from first instructions to final order.

Description
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Apply the Pre-Action Protocol and know when to challenge a breach by another party
- Issue proceedings in Form A
- Prepare the Forms E, G, H, Statement of Issues and Questionnaires effectively, so as to provide and obtain proper disclosure
- Attend a First Appointment and secure directions which will maximise your client’s settlement
- Advise a client at FDR on the best realistic terms of settlement
- Apply for Interlocutory Orders needed to protect your client’s position and secure assets
- Use the statutory ‘guidelines’ so as to predict the likely outcome of a trial
- Prepare for an effective Final Hearing
Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:
- A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
- B - Technical legal practice
- C - Working with other people
- D - Managing themselves and their own work
