Someday, you may find yourself in a position where your sewing duties are handled by others. In the meantime, it’s up to you to bring your creative visions to life for others to see. Visualising and sketching out remarkable designs just isn’t enough. If you don’t have the skills and the confidence to produce at least rudimentary prototypes of your designs, it is unlikely you will be taken seriously. By contrast, the more advanced and developed your sewing skills become, the higher the likelihood you will be recognised as a professional.

This second-stage tutorial furthers the previous module, with an overview of some of the most important practical sewing skills in the fashion designer’s arsenal. Study stitches, seams and seam finishes, advanced hand sewing techniques, tucks, pleats, gathers, smocking, ruffles, frills, buttons and more. Learn how to take your existing sewing skills to the next level and put them to use in the fashion design process.

Course assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout the course. Your assignment will be marked by your tutor and independently moderated. The feedback on your assignment will then be sent to you. On receipt of this, you may wish to contact your tutor to discuss the feedback.

When you enrol on a course with Brentwood Open Learning College you are allocated your personal tutor. Tutor’s help and support will be available throughout your studies with the college. He/she will assess your work and will provide you with regular feedback on your progress.

No prior knowledge is required to take this course.

*Note: This is an independent unit not a complete course so does not equalize to a course. This will give you 10 CPD points to add on your CV. At the end of the unit, you can claim CPD Accredited unit by paying £35 accreditation fee and postal charges (£9 for UK students, £15 for outside UK).
