We will cover five of the more complex employment law areas that are commonly encountered in employment practice. You will gain a broad overview of the main concepts, rights, obligations and remedies in each of these areas to build up your personal toolkit of employment law knowledge. We will reinforce your knowledge of the law and practical application of the areas studied by the use of case study examples.

Description
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Understand the main concepts of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 and their application in a practical context in the workplace
- Identify the main categories of restrictive covenant used in practice and appreciate the circumstances in which such covenants may be enforced
- Summarise the key aspects of the Working Time Regulations 1998 and how these can be dealt with in practice
- Understand the scope of whistle-blowing protection in the workplace and its practical application
- Set out the key aspects of the unlawful deductions from wages regime contained in the Employment Rights Act 1996
Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies: - A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
- B - Technical legal practice
- C - Working with other people
- D - Managing themselves and their own work
