The process of litigation and dispute resolution has been described as a series of negotiations in the context of one long negotiation. In the current economic climate, clients are increasingly demanding quick, cost-effective dispute resolution and to meet this demand, you need to stay ahead of the game by mastering the art of negotiation. This highly-interactive course focuses on the skills and strategies of master negotiators in the context of litigation.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Identify your particular negotiating style
- Decide when to engage in a negotiation and when not to
- Recognise the various stages of negotiation
- Condition your mind to make a business decision before determining the negotiation content and strategy
- Deal with intimidating situations and difficult negotiators
- Recognise and evaluate various negotiation and communication styles
- Apply the strategies and techniques of master negotiators
- Identify the ethical and adverse cost consequences of failing to negotiate
Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:

- D - Managing themselves and their own work
