Overview

Students develop their creative writing portfolio at the same time as getting to grips with the industry in which they wish to publish their work. Students take writing modules and learn about current trends in the industry; the publishing side of the course focuses on marketing-led commercial and trade publishing, the structure of the industry and the core skills required to get into it.

Requirements:

A 2nd Class degree or above in a related subject; applicants must also submit a 2,000-word sample of creative writing; applicants whose 1st language is not English require academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with 7.0 in writing.

Assessment Methods:

Assessment is through essays; reports; presentations; briefs; research projects; portfolios.

Modules:

Modules include: Create: the business of publishing; special study: workshops in popular genre writing; writers' workshop. Optional modules: creative writing dissertation; practical publishing project; publishing dissertation; work placements, networking and career planning; make: content development and production; share: strategic marketing and sales.
