Overview

If you are new to people management this course is the ideal way to gain the skills you require quickly. As a new leader you will return to work feeling motivated and confident that you can make a positive impact in your new role. This course will challenge the way you see yourself and how you choose to lead your team. This two-day course will provide you with the underpinning knowledge and understanding of team development and effective teams, the role and responsibilities of a Team Leader, an awareness of various management and leadership styles, as well as key skills areas such as workplace communications and delegation. You will also have an opportunity to consider way of developing yourself as a Team Leader.

This course will cover

Defining your role and responsibility as team leader:

  • Understanding the difference between groups and teams

  • Know what is meant by a Team Role and how to identify them in your workplace

  • Understand a relevant Management and Leadership theory and your own leadership style

  • Identify the skills, behaviour and characteristics of good team leading

People management, team development and delegation:

  • Understand the stages of team development and assess where your own team is in realtion to Tuckman's model

  • Identify the Skills, Behaviours & Characteristics of good Team Leading

  • Recognise strengths and develop individuals' potential

  • Appreciate the main advantages and disadvantages of workplace delegation

  • Overcome the barriers to effective delegation

Improve team performance

  • Develop effective strategies for yourself and your team

  • Identify how to improved team, dynamics and communication

  • Identify how to develop and improve trust

  • Know how to establish SMART objectives for your team

Motivating the team

  • Identify the key principles of motivation

  • Understand a number of relevant workplace motivational theories

  • Link individual effort to eam and organisational goals

Effective communication

  • Identify and understand the communication process

  • Identify good workplace communication practice methods and barriers

  • Define feedback and identify how to give constructive feedback

Personal Development

  • Prepare and develop a personal action plan to support your return to the workplace

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for individuals who are either newly appointed to a Team Leader role or for individuals who have been a Team Leader for a period of time but have received no formal training. Supervisors with more experience may prefer 'Team Management and Leadership Skills for Supervisors & Team Leaders'.
