Overview

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that uses talking therapy to help people make sense of their overwhelming problem and break it down into small manageable parts.

Designed to initiate positive changes in the behaviour and way of thinking, CBT is originally designed for the treatment and management of anxiety and depression but it continues to be accepted as a treatment modality for specific mental and physical health problems.

CBT can also provide techniques for coping with stressful situations, managing difficult emotions, overcoming emotional trauma and grief and resolving relationship conflicts.

A cognitive behavioural therapist must be able to clearly understand the specific negative thinking or what exactly is the issue that needs to be changed in order to know the best response or what approach to use. This entails gaining necessary training and education from reputable institutions that can help you learn everything you need to learn to help people break the vicious cycle of negative thinking and behaviours and manage specific mental and physical health problems.

This course can give you the training and education you need to begin your career in CBT.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
