  • The Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) drivers the quality assurance both in qualifications and within national frameworks and the quality of management systems throughout an approved centre. The role, in terms of managing assessment and assessors so that standards are consistently meet, is key to maintaining public confidence in each and every qualification provided by our centre. The internal quality assurance is a key factor in managing ‘risk’ and ensuring that when certificates are claimed for learners the requirements of the national standards have been reliably met.

Areas Covered on This Course

  • Apply policies, procedures and legislation to meet external/regulatory requirements and comply with company policies.
  • Plan, operate and evaluate internal assessment and quality assurance systems and to support the assessment team.
  • Monitor and improve the quality of assessment practice and actively engage in and organise standardisation meetings.
  • Support and develop tutors and/or assessors and provide developmental strategies and support.

Venue Choice

  • The course is conducted in an appropriate setting either in our own training facilities at Palmer House, in a suitable venue of the candidate’s choice or alternatively you could be added to one of our open courses run at a designated venue.
  • Own venues must be suitable training area free from distractions where possible and an area for practicing activities must be available.

  • Unit 4 (Theory based) A knowledge only award for those who need to know about internal quality assurance but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves. These may be experienced assessors or centre managers for example.
  • Unit 4 and Unit 5 for practitioners who conduct the internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.
  • Unit 4, Unit 5 and Unit 8 for practitioners who lead the internal quality assurance process and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process, practice and the performance of assessors. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.

Requirements

  • You must be able to demonstrate competency in order to attend this programme. Competency is assessed by either possessing suitable qualifications or by demonstrating experience in the area you are going to moderate.
  • You should also be currently working within an educational environment as a lead moderator and you must also be able to demonstrate evidence that you can lead a team of assessors or internal moderators.
  • The course also requires candidates to have a good level of computer literacy and have access to a computer, the internet and a word processor in order to complete the course work.
