Overview

This is a face to face course which can help boost learner’s confidence and learn from each other. Learners are afforded the flexibility to work at a time and a place that suits them and at a pace that they control. The course content meets all the criteria required by Ofsted as stated in the Common Inspection Framework for Further Education and Skills.

Duration – Learners can complete and obtain this certificate by attending face to face tutorials 12 hours. Learners have up to 3 months to complete the course which includes Health and Safety and Food Safety.

Description

Course Content – This qualification is designed to help Nannies build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years within the child’s own home. The course covers the 6 key areas of the Common Core Skills and Knowledge for the children’s workforce.

Common Core Skills

  • Effective communication and engagement
  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
  • Supporting transitions
  • Multi-agency working
  • Confidentiality and Sharing information

On completion of the course you will:

  • Identify and understand patterns of children’s development from birth to 19 years
  • Identify the importance of communication with children and their parents/carers
  • Identify how to manage children’s behaviour
  • Identify how to safeguard children
  • Identify how to support children through transitions
  • Identify how to work with others when caring for children in the child’s own home

How is it Assessed? The course is assessed by completion of a multi-choice question paper. An 80% score is required to be able issue a certificate (the test can be retaken if necessary until that result is achieved). Food Safety and Health and Safety are free modules and are optional units.

Registering for Ofsted – As you may be aware, Nannies are, at present, not required by law to hold any childcare qualifications, and however, if you wish to become part of the Voluntary Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR) you must demonstrate to Ofsted that you can evidence the following 4 criteria. We would recommend that, as the employer receives the tax benefit, that the employer should pay all or part of the costs towards a Nanny becoming registered.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who works as, or wants to work as, a Nanny and requires certification for the Ofsted Register.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
