Description
Course Content – This qualification is designed to help Nannies build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years within the child’s own home. The course covers the 6 key areas of the Common Core Skills and Knowledge for the children’s workforce.
Common Core Skills
- Effective communication and engagement
- Child and young person development

On completion of the course you will:

- Identify the importance of communication with children and their parents/carers
- Identify how to manage children’s behaviour
- Identify how to safeguard children
- Identify how to support children through transitions
- Identify how to work with others when caring for children in the child’s own home
How is it Assessed? The course is assessed by completion of a multi-choice question paper. An 80% score is required to be able issue a certificate (the test can be retaken if necessary until that result is achieved). Food Safety and Health and Safety are free modules and are optional units.
Registering for Ofsted – As you may be aware, Nannies are, at present, not required by law to hold any childcare qualifications, and however, if you wish to become part of the Voluntary Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR) you must demonstrate to Ofsted that you can evidence the following 4 criteria. We would recommend that, as the employer receives the tax benefit, that the employer should pay all or part of the costs towards a Nanny becoming registered.
Who is this course for?
Anyone who works as, or wants to work as, a Nanny and requires certification for the Ofsted Register.
