This qualification is ideal for people who are thinking about a career change and want to understand the basics of being a Teaching Assistant. It’s also great if you are starting to volunteer in a classroom, or work in a non-classroom role as it includes the fundamental elements of working with children and young people.

Please note, this is not a practical qualification and as such is not a full Level 3 qualification.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification covers the essential knowledge anyone working in schools or colleges should have. You’ll learn about child and young person development, the structure of schools and college, safeguarding and health and safety.

This qualification is aimed at those working with children who are 5 years old and above, but you’ll find some early years knowledge has been included as this will help your understanding.

How does it work?

You will be assigned a Personal Support Tutor who will support you throughout your qualification and assess your work. You will be sent a textbook and candidate handbook which you can use throughout the qualification, as well as having your own online portfolio. This portfolio is a streamlined, easy to use system where you will be able to access your eLearning, submit your work and track your progress throughout the qualification.

How is it be assessed?

You will submit assignments to your online portfolio, which your Personal Support Tutor will assess for you.

How long does it take?

You will be given 6 months to complete this course, but it can be completed quicker if you are able to put more time into your studies.

Do I need a placement?

You don’t need to be working in a placement to complete this qualification.

Who is this course for?

It’s suitable for people who are not yet working in a school or college, or who have started a volunteer placement, but who are able to work at Level 3.

If you are in a practical role, or already employed by a school or college, the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma is a more suitable qualification.

Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old and have a good standard of written and spoken English.

You do not need a placement to complete this qualification.

What related qualifications can you progress to?

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

To move onto these qualifications you only need to pay the difference in cost plus a £50 administration charge.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
