Overview

The British Sign Language Course introduces students to BSL and helps them to become fluent enough to use it in basic, everyday conversation. As well as understanding the practical aspects of vocabulary and grammar, this course also gives students a more thorough knowledge with additional topics covered, such as the origins of British Sign Language, how it is used (not solely as a form of communication the hearing and speech impaired), and the grammatical structure of the British Sign Language, called the Topic Comment Structure and how it differs from its spoken counterpart. By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of BSL and be in a great place to pursue British Sign Language further and develop further proficiency in it.

Who is this course for?

The BSL Course takes anyone who wishes to learn sign language, from complete novice, to having a good understanding of British sign language and being capable of using it in basic, everyday conversation; giving them a good foundation of knowledge to then go onto further study and gain further proficiency. The course will help those who work with the public or in carer roles, where they may come in contact with BSL users, and for those who are considering a career in British Sign Language Interpretation but would like to understand the topic further before committing to a more financially and time-demanding course.

Requirements

The British Sign Language Course will take you up to 150 hours to complete working from home. There is no time limit for completing this course, it can be studied in your own time at your own pace. The course comes with a course assessment in the form of quizzes, written questions and short essays, once you have completed your course assessment please email or post it back to us for marking, you will then receive your feedback and certificates.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
