What Is PRINCE2®?

PRINCE2® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a generic and global project management framework.

In the 1980’s the UK Government found there were common project problems and required a solution to these problems. These project problems included delivery time, budget and quality issues. Similar to many private organisations, they wanted a solution that focused on deliverables.

And so PRINCE2® was born.

Due to the truly generic and global nature of PRINCE2®, it can be applied to projects of any type, scale, location and culture and thanks to the method’s proven principles, organisations that adopt PRINCE2® can significantly improve their organisational maturity and capacity across many areas of the business. These areas may include research, product development, IT, mergers and acquisitions, business change and many more.

What is PRINCE2® Foundation?

PRINCE2® Foundation is the first step in the PRINCE2® certification process. If you’re interested in entering the field of project management, then the PRINCE2® Foundation Course is the perfect start. It covers the basic methodology and terminology of PRINCE2®.

Once students have completed the PRINCE2® Foundation Course they can then move onto the PRINCE2® Practitioner Course which is the second step in PRINCE2® certifications.

What is a Project Manager?

Typically, a Project Manager is someone who is qualified in the field of project management and they will be in charge of the planning, implementation and closing of the project using their specialised knowledge and skill set. Their main responsibilities include implementation, monitoring and control of a project.

Not only is the effectiveness of the training process enhanced, but also the convenience and overall cost efficiency of studying online makes it a compelling option for training. You can learn at your own pace and can repeat each section as many times as required unlike in a classroom environment.

Studying at your own pace, rewinding and going over the material as often as you need improves your long-term memory retention and makes studying more rewarding.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
