Also an ideal qualification for anyone looking to go on to further education, improve your job prospects or expand your knowledge.

Important: We recommend having a level 3 Counselling qualification (or similar) so that you have the founding knowledge you'll need to succeed on the Advanced Counselling Level 4.

This Level 4 Diploma will help you to develop a deeper understanding of counselling knowledge and skills. A distance learning course is an ideal way to gain an Advanced Counselling diploma, allowing you to comprehensively prepare for an exam or career through home study.

Intuitively some individuals are keen observers, good listeners, easily able to establish rapport, some people naturally have an awareness of body language communication and can respond appropriately to people. However, theory and knowledge, as well as practical experience, can certainly develop these skills. Counselling is a complex skill requiring a sound knowledge base and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be faced with a wide range of problems and of varying severity.

Counselling has proven to be an extremely effective therapy for the wide variety of situations with which people find themselves struggling, it is vital therefore that you understand not only how to work with
these issues, but also the factors that lead to these issues developing. During this course, you will study a foundation of relevant models and skills that will equip you to engage in purposeful coaching and mentoring conversations and relationship building.

On this course you will:
  • Demonstrate their understanding of development and attachment
  • Understand the treatment models used in counselling
  • Demonstrate their ability to apply theory to their practical work with clients
  • Identify issues of setting up a private practice
  • Understand the purpose of regulation
  • Discuss the importance of communication and barriers to communication

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
