Overview
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Work)** is designed for students who are planning to further their education and plan a career related to Social Work. Many of our students study from home in their spare time and use this Access to HIgher Education Diploma as a route into a full degree. However, it’s also beneficial if you’re looking to go directly into employment, where a Level 3 qualification is required.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Work) covers areas from a range of social work-related topics including social work theory and practice, psychology, sociology as well as core study skills.
You’ll also pick up and learn organisational skills, time management skills and the ability to research on your own. This is important as social workers need to be able to manage heavy workloads at times and use their time effectively. They also need to keep up-to-date notes and records for other professionals to access.
Description
Your Access to Higher Education Diploma will be made up of a number of units, each of which will require you to complete an assignment. You’ll find ‘assessment planners’ included within the course materials for each unit; these are designed to help you to complete the relevant assignment. Your personal tutor will be responsible for marking your assignments and giving you with feedback about the work you’ve produced, and how you can improve.
All assignments provide the evidence required to award you with learning credits. You will need 60 credits to achieve an Access to Higher Education Diploma. Of the 60 credits required, 15 will be ungraded and 45 will be graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 360 hrs.

Requirements
Learners must have a GCSE in Maths and English (or an equivalent), a relevant nvq at level 2 or above and aspire to study a Social Work related degree at university. Learners should, however, be aware that Universities each apply their own admissions criteria, and these vary broadly depending on the reputation and popularity of the university and of the degree programme that relates to your area of interest.
