The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Introductory Award in Bookkeeping (Level 1) is the introductory level to the set of AAT qualifications that are relevant to bookkeeping, providing introductory skills and essential knowledge in single entry bookkeeping and how to pursue a career.

There is no need for any prior accounting or bookkeeping knowledge for this qualification, as it will give you a solid foundation in the practice of single entry bookkeeping and how to use this knowledge in the workplace.

Members who hold an AAT qualification at a trainee level earn an average salary of £21,000 per year, which can rise to £40,000 depending on experience. It is also possible to open your own bookkeeping practice and run your own business or keep track of your own accounts and books as a business owner with the skills that you learn in bookkeeping qualifications.

Course Units

The course consists of four units:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Working within Bookkeeping
  • Bookkeeping and Accounts
  • Spreadsheet Software

How is it assessed?

This course includes the Introduction to Bookkeeping incorporates the Working Within Bookkeeping and Bookkeeping and Accounts module, these three elements are tested with a single exam, Spreadsheet Software is tested separately.

There are practice assessments included within the course for the first element which are delivered online and computer marked, a pass mark of 75% is required before moving on to the next chapter. Spreadsheet Software has a mock exam which is self-assessed by the student from the model answer provided to you.

On completion of the study material, assessmenst and mock exam the student should move to the AAT practice exams which are available through the AAT website.

Tutor Support

We provide you with tutor support throughout your 12-month course access period. Your tutor will be available to you 24/7 and can provide guidance through the course and professional advice to help you through any potential issue you may come across. The tutor support is provided so we can ensure you have the best chance of passing your examinations. AAT pass rates with tutor support currently stand at 92%.

Course Duration

We provide 12 months’ access to the course but many of our students complete this within six weeks, it is entirely dependent upon your initial commitment to study.
