Senior Java Developer
Location: Remote, with occasional travel to the South Coast and one international trip per yearSalary: £50,000–£60,000 + 3% bonusHours: 35 hours per weekType: PermanentWe’re looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a growing technology team.This is a hands-on role focused on designing, developing, testing and improving Java-based software, working across development, testing, implementation and support to deliver reliable, maintainable solutions.It’s also an opportunity to take the next step towards technical leadership. As your experience develops, you’ll have the chance to take greater responsibility for technical direction, software quality, mentoring and team development, with the potential to progress into an R&D Manager position within approximately 12 months, subject to performance and business requirements.What you’ll be doingDesign, develop, test and maintain high-quality Java softwareTranslate technical and business requirements into practical solutionsDevelop new functionality, integrations and product improvementsApply strong software engineering and coding best practicesReview code and provide constructive feedback to other developersInvestigate defects and technical issues, identifying and resolving root causesSupport effective testing, including unit testing and test dataProduce clear technical and user documentationContribute to solution design and technical decision-makingWork closely with Software Testers, Implementers, Business Analysts, Project Managers and Support teamsSupport technical discussions, knowledge sharing and mentoringHelp establish consistent development and quality standardsContribute to the adoption of AI-assisted development and other emerging technologies where they add valueTechnical environmentJava development is the key priority, but an understanding of the wider technology environment will be useful.Experience or an interest in developing skills across the following would be beneficial:AWS and cloud environmentsDevOpsPostgreSQL and SQLAPIs and integrationsInfrastructure and security considerationsAI-assisted development and automationYou don't need to be an infrastructure specialist. The focus is on software development and understanding how your solutions operate within the wider technology environment.About youYou’ll be an experienced commercial Java developer who enjoys staying hands-on but is also ready to take the next step towards technical leadership.You’ll ideally have:Strong commercial Java development experienceExperience developing and maintaining software in a commercial environmentA good understanding of software design, development practices and code qualityExperience with APIs, integrations or complex business applicationsStrong problem-solving and debugging skillsExcellent communication and collaboration skillsAn interest in mentoring and supporting other developersA proactive approach and a genuine desire to improve how things are doneThe opportunityThis is a role for an experienced Java Developer who wants to grow with the team.
