System Analyst HP Exstream

Overall Job Purpose

The System Analyst is responsible for the analysis, design and development of customer communications and notifications utilizing the HP Exstream Suite.


Reports to Technical Product Manager - HPX & TIBCO - Works closely with architects, business analysts, project managers, system developers, testers, our technology partners and our print and email providers. - Occasional travel to other sites may be required - No budgetary control

Outputs, responsibilities and accountabilities

The role is responsible for creating, analysing and impacting requirements from Marketing, IT or directly with the business, their output is to understand, validate and impact requests and turn them into technical user stories/technical specifications for developers to build from and clarify any queries raised.

The following outlines all responsibilities

- Estimation: Providing estimated HPX development and support efforts for a Change/Project. This involves understanding the requirements by discussing with Marketing Team, source System Analyst and/or the Design teams. Analysis:

  • Perform initial analysis of the requirement artefacts (Business specs, Mapping Sheets, Reference File data and any other requirement related documents) in order to understand requirements and the impacted areas
  • Liaise/coordinate with Marketing team for any discrepancies in the specs. Suggest improvements, if any, so that no obvious scenarios are missed out and the comments in the spec are clearly understood by all stakeholders
  • Documenting the list of new elements to be added in relevant XMLs (including mentioning of elements' XPaths where the required elements are expected by HPX in the Input XML)
  • Documenting additions/updates to the existing underlying source logic and the expected values
  • Send Gap Analysis to Design Teams/Developers (including that of Source System and/or TIBCO), walk them through the expectations and clarify the queries raised
  • Work with Marketing and Business teams to clarify the queries raised by Design Teams
  • Update 'Schema Rationalization' spreadsheet for HPX TIBCO team to understand which Schemas are to be updated with what elements and where

- HPX Reference Files:

  • Create/update template code reference files of all work streams
  • Create/update launch date reference file
  • Create/update image reference file
  • Coordinate with SharePoint team in uploading the static PDFs on to SharePoint

- Technical Documentation:

  • Create/update Solution Design Documentation
  • Create/update Technical User Stories/Specification as required
  • Create/update Mapping sheets

- Defect/Test management:

  • Clarify queries from Testing Teams across environments during testing phases
  • Validate defects and if valid, perform initial analysis (like checking the HPX Input file to analyse if the data is as per the expectation in the given scenario) to find out the root cause. Then, assign defect to relevant team for further investigation/fix
  • Clarify queries from HPX/Source System/TIBCO Development teams while they investigate/fix the defect o If the defect is not valid, reject the defect with the reason as to why the defect is invalid

- Governance:

  • Works with CADS (Committee, Application Development Standards) and Quality Control teams to ensure the application remains secure and defect free.

The role is accountable to ensure that all work is clearly defined (ready state) before work starts.

Competence, knowledge and skills required

The following outlines the skills and experience required:

  • Proven experience, knowledge and understanding of HP Exstream Design and Production
  • Understanding of HP Exstream Delivery Manager (HP Command Center & HP Delivery Engine)
  • Experience of HP Exstream Design and Production Interactive (specifically Empower) is highly desirable
  • Programming skills (especially Visual Basic)
  • Good understanding of:


o print production processes (PDF)

o multi-channel delivery (E-mail & SMS)

o archive (SharePoint)

  • Experience of working in IT projects, both with in-house resources and third party suppliers
  • Knowledge of the system development process and project methodologies
  • Understanding of key business functions and processes
  • Knowledge of patterns and standards in IT architecture
  • Ability to communicate well in English both written and verbally
  • Ability to convert technical information to audience appropriate communication
  • Financial Services experience is desirable but not essential.
