International Pharmaceutical Manufacturer seeks a Senior Automation/Controls Engineer.

About the role:

The Process Engineering and Automation team has been growing rapidly over the past few years to develop an in-house expert technical core to serve capital projects and continuous improvement activities on site. The company are now seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to increase the skills base of high performing team. The successful candidate will be part of the senior team that develops ways of working to deliver exceptional, effective and efficient service to internal customers; increase the technical skills base and GMP knowledge within the team and support the professional development of the current team. The senior automation engineer will also be responsible in developing the site automation strategy, standards and policies.

Duties may include:

  • Establishment of site automation strategy, standards and procedures to deliver industry best practice for future projects and obsolescence plan to mitigate risks to existing production
  • Creation and administration of disaster recovery procedures for automated systems and proposing solutions for systems requiring replacement or upgrade.
  • Technical lead on control and automation projects providing best practice
  • Development of in-house capabilities in all aspects of control, automation and computerised systems
  • Provide hands-on diagnostic troubleshooting on PLC/SCADA systems and manage root-cause investigations for automation related issues.
  • Coaching technicians and junior engineers in all required aspects of Automation and Control
  • Providing engineering support to commissioning and validation initiatives.
  • Undertaking of other duties to support the department as necessary

Skills and experience:

  • Degree in automation, electronics or other suitable qualification
  • Strong industry experience (10years+), preferably pharmaceutical, aseptic or biotech
  • Expert knowledge of GAMP, GMP Volume 4 Annex11 and 21 CFR 11; and strong understanding of cGMP and GEP
  • Proven experience with control and automation systems specification, programming and optimization (PLC, SCADA, Loop controllers)
  • Knowledge of windows operating systems and communication networks - Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, Fieldbus and Modbus.
  • Proven competency in all aspects associated with PLC (including Siemens), SCADA, S88 and S95 within a cGMP regulated environment.
  • Experience in functional safety, including understanding of IEC 61511 and IEC 62061 Standards, Integrated Control and Safety Systems, SIS, ATEX, LOPA and SIL
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information to non-technical people.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good attention to detail, ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, planning, and skills needed to successfully execute multiple activities concurrently
  • Be able to build effective internal and external relationships and be able to influence individuals across a variety of functions without a direct reporting relationship
  • Have an adaptable and pragmatic approach to deliver automation and control systems that provide value to the business
