Your new School
This High School, located near the centre of Newport currently has around 800 pupils on roll, including 150 in the Sixth Form. Recent school and staff development initiatives have led to a number of improvements in important areas that have had a significant impact in improving school outcomes and standards. There is a culture of rigourous self-evaluation that permeates the school, leading to the identification of suitable priorities for improvement. An opportunity is now presenting itself to join the large science department within a busy technician role.
Your new role
As the school science technician, you will play a vital role in the provision of high-quality science teaching in the school, from looking after laboratory equipment to help pupils achieve their potential with one-to-one support. You will be maintaining equipment, constructing and modifying apparatus, setting up experiments, taking an active part in lab demonstrations, ordering resources and monitoring budgets, helping in practical classes, giving technical help to pupils. You will complete these duties whilst always meeting current health and safety standards.
What you'll need to succeed
The school is looking for someone with recent Lab experience and who is immediately available. You must have a strong work ethic and show a real passion for Science. You will have experience setting up equipment in a laboratory environment and will have a good knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPSS in order to maintain health and safety standards. You will be an efficient worker and able to conduct tasks quickly with a keen eye for detail. Previous experience of working in a school laboratory would be advantageous but not essential.
