Working hours: Full-time
Department: Dispute Resolution
Specialism: Non-Contentious Financial Services Regulatory
My client, a top 200 law firm and Legal 500 rated practice in the city are seeking a Regulatory Lawyer.
This city firm offers a different career lifestyle to that of many of their much larger competitors. As a smaller firm, they also consider themselves to be far more personal and friendly.
As a general rule, they look for a very strong academic background coupled with good relevant experience.
The non-contentious financial services regulatory practice advises FinTech and InsurTech entrepreneurs; emerging companies, and long-established financial services groups, on (for example) the regulatory perimeter; authorisations; appointed representative arrangements; company, group and business (re)structuring; the Senior Managers Regime; product literature and sales; outsourcing; international expansion; Part VII transfers and acquisitions of control; their response to regulatory challenge; managing a regulated business in difficulty; and de-authorisations. They also work very closely with their corporate, commercial and employment law colleagues (in particular) on a wide range of other matters.
Their contentious financial services regulatory practice handles a variety of FCA Investigations; assist with section 166 Skilled Person Reviews; and contested approved person and change-in-control applications.
The white collar crime practice handles large SFO investigations and prosecutions; corporate internal investigations; advising in relation to money laundering, sanctions and financial crime issues; and advice on compliance with the UK Bribery Act.
The ideal candidate's experience will include advising (re)insurers; payment services businesses; alternative investment fund managers; credit providers; peer-to-peer lenders, and crowdfunding platforms, on pure regulatory issues, as well as on related commercial contract and corporate matters.
Personal attributes and skills
The successful candidate will have at least 4 years' post qualification experience, which includes advising on a broad range of complex non-contentious UK and European financial services regulatory issues. A pro-active nature, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a willingness to take ownership and responsibility, are also essential.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of talented, intelligent and ambitious lawyers who often join the firm from Magic Circle practices. It will suit lawyers who prefer to have greater autonomy in their roles and are looking for a more attractive work life balance.
