Purchasing Manager - One off production parts in stainless steel, aluminium and carbon steel

Your new company is a leading design and manufacturing business with several sites in the UK. The business manufacture bespoke and custom designed solutions on behalf of the Defence industries and drive innovation into everything they do.

Due to significant growth your new company are currently recruiting a Purchasing Manager who lead, manage and coordinate all purchasing, sourcing and supplier management activities. This is in addition to managing a small supply chain team.

Your new role will work in a low volume / high value manufacturing environment and will support engineering staff by overseeing the procurement of machined parts, electrical components, tooling and workshop consumables and bringing this into the business within budget, timescales and with high quality material standards.

Your role will support production teams through the delivery of on-time and quality materials whilst maintaining a clear focus on total costs.

You will work closely with Finance, Sales and Production departments to maintain an awareness of profitability, delivery impacts and cash flow and you will take initiatives to develop and deliver strategic opportunities to reduce material costs.

You will also take responsibility for an environment of continuous improvement within procurement and supply chain.

You will develop strong and effective working relationships with internal departments such as sales & engineering to understand current and upcoming project requirements and what the projects are so you can procure and allocate work to staff members accordingly.

Your new role will be responsible for developing a supplier qualification program that drives continuous improvement and enable measurement of performance through performance metrics such as On-Time Delivery and through to quality of product supplied.

To be successful in this role you will have several years' experience in a purchasing management role in a fast paced engineered to order business and must have experience of low volume / high value manufacturing.

You will have proven ability in the management of purchasing / supply chain teams as well as experience of applying strategic purchasing methods and supplier performance management.

You will demonstrate experience of delivering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement and will have strong negotiation skills with advanced leadership, management and communication skills.

You will be able to read technical drawings and Bill of Materials (BoMs) and be able to build strong and effective working relationships with internal departments, notably engineering, sales, finance.

You will have experience of building a strong fit for purpose supply chain that delivers quality, on-time delivery and delivers cost effectiveness.

You will have experience with ERP & MRP systems and should be able to manage large data sets in Excel.

You must be a British passport holder or have lived in the UK for 5 years and you must be able to clear a Security Clearance vetting process.
