Manufacturing Engineer

On behalf of our client based in Barrowford, Nelson we are looking to recruit a manufacturing engineer to work for a large and successful lighting company. This is a full time permanent role.

Job Purpose

To effectively support the product development process by providing practical engineering input through the phases of pre and post production and identify improvements in the manufacturing process by applying lean philosophies to reduce costs and improve manufacturing efficiency.

Specific Responsibilities

• Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods to review and refine existing manufacturing processes
• Work with the business ERP system to implement changes to bills of materials and assembly routings
• Assist the design and development of new products, including production readiness and implementing assembly plans
• Assist the design of production jigs and fixtures that contribute to productivity targets
• Manage feasibility, prioritisation and implementation of engineering change via the ECR process
• Contribute to engineering process review, refinement and efficiency improvements
• Work closely with Operational Value Stream to manage and implement 'cost out' and 'value added' engineering improvement projects
• Apply knowledge and experience to add value to all departments across the business
• Work with project management teams and functions to enable effective changes in manufacturing
• Contribute to lean manufacturing projects, 5’s, Kaizen events
• Maintain good communications across all functions of the business
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment, be responsible for good housekeeping and ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards

Experience & qualifications required

• Project management skills
• Experience of Lean manufacturing
• Experience of 3D CAD (Solidworks ideal)
• Proficient with MS office software
• Experience of medium volume, high mix assembly production plant
• HNC/D or Degree level in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
• Engineering apprenticeship with mechanical bias
• Minimum 5 years' experience working in an engineering role
