Location:
Based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, Tier 2 works in partnership with organisations of all sizes, and across industry sectors, to understand their business challenges, and deliver custom software solutions using modern, open-source, cloud-native technology and an agile project approach.
The Role:
Reporting to the Head of Middleware, the Linux OpenShift Consultant will perform a key role in helping our customers design and implement their digital transformation strategy on Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform.
Job Summary:
- To provide consultancy services to customers on the planning, installation, configuration and management of Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform based on recognised best practices;
- To act as a technical focal point for OpenShift and related technologies within Tier 2, including ongoing involvement in the OpenShift Commons community;
- To be responsible for the installation, configuration and ongoing management of Tier 2’s cloud infrastructure, including AWS and OpenShift
Scope of Work:
- Planning and performing the installation and configuration of OpenShift Container Platform on hybrid cloud environments - to include a combination of on-premise, AWS and Azure;
- Deployment and configuration of containerised services on OpenShift Container Platform, such as Jenkins, Red Hat Runtimes and integration services such as Red Hat Fuse and AMQ;
- Providing in-house expertise and be hands on in the ongoing management of the OpenShift environment;
- Participating in requirements gathering and estimating effort for new enhancements and developments utilising OpenShift;
- Assisting with the installation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of Tier 2’s internal cloud infrastructure, comprising Amazon EC2 instances and OpenShift environments;
- Acting as a technical focal point for OpenShift and related technologies within Tier 2, including ongoing involvement in the OpenShift Commons community;
Skills and experience:
- Decent work experience as a Linux Systems Engineer (preferably with RHCE qualification) including installing, configuring and maintaining Linux server environments;
- Practical experience of configuration management / deployment automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, and Chef;
- Experience of working with the leading cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure;
- Experience in infrastructure automation tools (CloudFormation, Terraform or Ansible);
- Experience working with docker containers & container orchestration tools (such as Kubernetes, RedHat OpenShift or Docker Swarm);
- Sound knowledge of data serialisation languages such as JSON and YAML;
- Familiarity with standard DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, TeamCity etc;
- Use of monitoring tools such as Kibana, Nagios, Grafana, Prometheus, etc.
