Key Account Manager

Job Purpose

To work with the National Account Manager (NAM) to support customers in the achievement of their tactical and strategic objectives across their Newspaper and Magazine category as defined by the customers profit protection and category management teams. This will be achieved through:

  • Supporting the NAM in the day-to-day service delivery across the customer account
  • Supporting the NAM in maintaining accurate and up to date account documents:

o Joint Business Plan

o Account Strategy

o Account Information Folder

o Contact Matrix

o Risks and Issues Log

  • The analysis and interpretation of key performance indicators (KPI’s)
  • Presentation of findings and recommendations at regional meetings across the UK
  • Ensuring the adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) via achievement of contractual KPI measures
  • Liaison with profit protection team
  • Liaison with customer merchandising contractors
  • Liaison with Wholesale suppliers to customers

Key Results Area

Delivery of joint business plans (JBP’s) and the resulting customer performance against targets to include (but not exclusive to):

  • Category objectives
  • Key developments
  • Targets
  • Regular evaluation & review
  • KPI delivery
  • SLA delivery
  • Customer satisfaction levels, as measured by market surveys

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong data manipulation and analysis skills
  • Flexibility, creativity & ability to operate in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent planning & personal organisation
  • Excellent self-motivation & high levels of personal commitment to the role, including hours
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work across the UK


  • Proven account management experience
  • Track record of influence with major multiple retailers

This position involves handling and interpreting data, so would ideally suit someone comfortable in this area.
