About the role
The Data and Communications Company (DCC) is delivering a once-in-a-generation programme to build a smart metering network for Great Britain.
Perhaps the most ambitious of its kind in the world, the programme will allow energy suppliers to roll out millions of smart electricity and gas meters to homes and small non-domestic properties. Funded by the energy industry, the network will connect smart meters to the business systems of energy suppliers, network operators and other authorised service users.
The smart metering network will help Great Britain become a global leader in smart energy and the development of smart grids.
DCC (a licensed Capita company) is the programme and service integrator working on behalf of the energy industry to establish and operate the data and communications infrastructure that will enable all UK homes to have a smart meter by 2020
What you will do:
Maintaining a new intranet site for the DCC to support our colleagues (using the Umbraco CMS platform) collaborating on large scale programme delivery and giving great operational service to customers
Maintaining the external website, posting and editing content for internal stakeholders in line with our regulatory requirements and strategic narrative. This is done via the Umbraco CMS .
Posting on and monitoring of DCC's social media presence
Commissioning digital content including videos, CGI, photography and infographics across internal and external platforms including Intranet, Website & Social Media.
Helping to roll out and maintain Smart DCC's new intranet
Advising internal teams about internal communication issues and developing internal communication plans
Editing the staff e-bulletin, including sourcing stories from across the business
Advising Internal teams about external digital communications material (including Social media) and sourcing content that is appropriate and supports the external strategy.
Seeking and responding to feedback from staff and adjusting communications content accordingly
Maintaining the external digital communications plans, including content scheduling for social media.
Helping handle the internal communication and external digital communications response to crisis situations
Drafting internal communications materials
Your experience will include:
You should have experience of working in an internal communications team, ideally at an organisation undergoing change
Writing skills: You need excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees and turn stakeholder updates into engaging external material.
Creative skills: You need the creative ability to develop stories from operational activities and departmental inputs.
Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential. Experience with CMS is required, ideally Umbraco being the specific platform we use. Experience in posting on social media is also a necessity with a strong understanding of the various platforms.
Interpersonal skills: You need good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with programme directors, HR and the change team. You also need to possess the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.
