Blue Sky Fostering is an established Independent Fostering Agency, operating across the south of England. We provide a number of different services including mainstream fostering for children aged 0-18, Parent and Child Placements, and we also have a Specialist Fostering Service providing more intensive therapeutic foster placements to children and young people.

Outline of the Role:

Blue Sky + Therapeutically Led Care Service (TLC) provides therapeutic foster placements to children and young people across the South of England. This role is to undertake sessions on an ad-hoc 'as and when’ basis to support the team by working with young people placed with Blue Sky. Whilst we would welcome applications from those who could commit to regular working with specific young people (weekly or fortnightly sessions), this is a casual role with no specific guaranteed hours.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and well organised Sessional Worker to support the young people’s progress in the TLC Programmes and foster placement. You will be supporting the young people in the community, in leisure activities, or at school, specifically to provide one to one support to young people, and to provide some necessary respite for the carers.

Main Duties:

  • Working closely with the Supervising Social Worker to supervise and support the carers and foster placement.
  • Undertake direct work with the child as directed by the clinical team - such as targeted skills coaching with behavioural issues, promoting hobbies, addressing self-harmful behaviour.
  • To deliver programmes of work across the business area, which contribute to ensuring that children’s care and development needs are met, as identified within their Therapeutic Treatment Plans and statutory LAC documents.
  • Establish objectives, plan and deliver a range of support services which promote longevity and stability levels within placements.
  • Plan, facilitate and implement group activities for Foster Carers, children and young people, and birth children, to promote the values of the agency.
  • To provide one to one support to young people on the programme within the community in a recreational context to promote and practice pro-social behaviour and problem solving skills.
  • To communicate a positive regard for the young person in order to build and sustain a sound relationship with them.
  • To identify the young person’s strengths and individual interests.
  • To enable and support the young people to participate in recreational and leisure activities.
  • To promote safety and assess risks associated with the young person’s behaviours and activities in the community under the direction of the Supervising Social Worker / Line Manager.
  • To encourage the young person’s engagement with their care plan and goals
  • Contribute to the production and publication of monthly written reports on each child placed.
  • Keep compliance with the National Minimum Standards - Fostering Regulations.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience working with young people on an individual basis
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
  • Experience of working with young people in a range of settings including managing challenging behaviour
  • Liaising with a range of agencies and professionals
  • Working with behavioural methods
  • Multi-agency working
  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Awareness of Child Protection issues
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about:
  1. needs of Children in Care and commitment to anti-oppressive practice
  2. the issues around Children in Care with complex mental health needs
  3. behavioural ways of working
  4. audit, service evaluation and development
