Job Title: Graduate Lab Technician - Microbiology/Food Science

Location: Wokingham, RG41 2TZ

Contract length: 6 months

Pay rate: £13.30 per hour

We're seeking a motivated and meticulous Graduate Lab Technician to join our Microbiology Team-a key part of ensuring the safety and quality of snacks enjoyed across the globe. This is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a world-class laboratory while contributing to the microbiological integrity of our beloved brands.

In this essential support role, you'll be part of a dedicated microbiology team, helping maintain lab efficiency and ensuring accurate and timely testing to uphold our high safety standards.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Microbiological Sample Preparation: Receive, label, and prepare food and environmental samples for routine microbiological testing (e.g., TVC, yeast/mould, pathogen screening).
  • Lab Operations Support: Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized microbiology lab. Support environmental monitoring and hygiene activities as needed.
  • Assist Microbiologists: Collaborate closely with microbiologists and analysts to support day-to-day testing, documentation, and result tracking.
  • Media and Equipment Prep: Prepare culture media, sterilize labware, and ensure availability of microbiological consumables and reagents.
  • Data Logging & Quality Records: Accurately record test data and ensure all documentation meets internal and external audit standards.
  • Good Laboratory Practice (GLP): Uphold lab protocols, hygiene standards, and safety regulations in everything you do.

What You Bring:

  • A degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Food Science, or a related scientific field.
  • A genuine interest in food microbiology and laboratory work.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique and basic microbiological methods (preferred, but full training provided).
  • Ability to follow procedures precisely and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a proactive approach to learning.
