Clinical Technologist

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Clinical Technologist to join our friendly and dynamic team in the Osteoporosis Centre at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). This is a fixed term post, 37.5 hours per week.

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual who can work well as part of a team as well as independently. The role involves close patient contact therefore good communication skills are essential.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The osteoporosis centre houses two high specification bone densitometers a HRpQCT scanner and two ultrasound machines and provides bone density, bone quality, body composition and vertebral assessment scans for in/out patients and private patients. Approximately 5000 patients are seen each year. The centre also offers technical services to clinical and scientific research.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will undertake DXA, HRpQCT and ultrasound investigations to determine bone density , bone quality and body composition in adults and children.

You will analyse the results of the scans and provide detailed reports to clinical and research teams.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You will need to have:

  • Competent computer skills for precision measurements.
  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent and relevant knowledge/qualifications.
  • Experience in bone densitometry would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
  • Experience working within a health care environment with an interest in bone health would be beneficial and the post may interest appropriately qualified allied health professionals e.g. nurses or radiographers as well as scientists and technologists.
